미드 '슈츠(SUITS)' 시즌1 : episode 1 (1시간 10분~1시간 15분)

 

'작심삼일'이라는 말 아시죠?!

거창하게 목표를 세우지만 그 굳게 마음먹은 일이 3일을 못 넘긴다는 뜻이잖아요.

 

같은 일을 30일 정도만 해 보면 루틴화할 수 있다고 하는데요. 

작심삼일을 취미삼아 하는 분들에게 좋은 방법이 있습니다.

작심삼일을 10번 해보는거예요. 

 

그러면 딱 30일이 되네요.. 좋은 방법이죠?!! 하하하

아무것도 못 했어요. 방법이 없어요.

 

So you're going to quit?

그래서 관두겠다?

 

It's either that or have Louis Litt fire me.

어차피 루이스가 자를 텐데요.

• 해설: "둘 중 하나다" 라는 뜻. ("Either A or B")
• 여기서는 "그렇게 하든가, 아니면 루이스가 나를 해고하게 놔두든가" → 즉 어쩔 수 없다는 의미예요.

무슨 얘기야?

 

My first day, Louis fired Gary Lipsky for screwing up a case.

사건을 말아 먹었다고 루이스가 게리를 해고했어요.

 

He said if I did the same thing, I'd be gone just as fast.

저도 그러면 똑같이 해고당할 거랬어요.

증인을 찾아가서 다시 설득해.

Because the least you could do is offer to stand up to Louis for me.

루이스한테서 보호해 줄 순 있었죠.

• 해설: "The least you could do"는 최소한 해줄 수 있는 것이라는 뜻입니다.
• "stand up to"는 "~에 맞서다"라는 표현이므로,
• 전체 의미는 "최소한 나 대신 루이스에게 맞서겠다고 해줄 수는 있었잖아요?" 입니다.

보호? 내 자격을 너한테 걸었어.

• 해설: "put my ass on the line"은 큰 위험을 감수하다는 속어 표현입니다.

You plant a fake employee to manipulate the associ....That's it.

신입들을 조종하려고 가짜 직원을 심어 놓은... 그거였군.

 

• "plant"는 여기서 "몰래 심다"는 의미 (직원, 스파이 등을 심는다는 뜻)
• "associates"는 "신입변호사들"을 뜻합니다.

  ※ "rip you out" → "억지로 끌어내다, 쫓아내다"는 거칠고 강한 표현입니다.

알아서 해결하세요. 증인석엔 안 설 거예요.

  ※ "save your breath"는 "말해봤자 소용없어" 또는 "말하지 마"라는 의미
